Step one

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter three 9 in round cake pans and dust with flour, tapping out the excess.

Step two

Mix together the 3 cups all-purpose flour, 3 cups granulated sugar, 1 ½ cups cocoa powder, 1 Tbsp baking soda, 1 ½ tsp baking powder, and 1 ½ tsp salt in a stand mixer using a low speed until combined.

Step three

Add the 4 eggs, 1 ½ cups buttermilk, 1 ½ cups warm water, ½ cup vegetable oil, and 2 tsp vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth (this could take a couple of minutes).

Step four

Divide batter evenly into the three prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes in the oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on cooling racks for 15 minutes and then turn out the cakes onto the racks to cool completely. Refer to next steps to make the frosting.

Step five

Using a stand mixer, beat together the 24 Tbsp cannabutter and 8oz cream cheese until fluffy.

Step six

Add in the 1 ½ cups cocoa powder and 3 tsp vanilla extract. Beat until combined.

Step seven

Beat in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time. Add milk as necessary to make the frosting a spreadable consistency. The frosting should be very thick. Once you've achieved the right consistency, frost and decorate your cake.
